About John Brady

Our friend John Brady left many fine legacies. He was a husband, father, brother and grandfather. We honor him today though as a fellow Rotarian. A member of Springfield Township Rotary Club for 33 years and Past President. Rotary was very important to John. He took the object of Rotary very seriously, the ideal to encourage and foster service to others, in this country and in all the countries of the world. When people from different countries are united in service to others, it advances understanding, goodwill, and peace. John believed in that ideal. For over 100 years, Rotary has accomplished this thru the Rotary Youth Exchange Program. This program sends students from our country to host countries around the world and we, in turn, host their students for up to one year.

Every year, about 8,000 young people around the world participate in this program, creating unofficial ambassadors for their communities and country. For many years, John had worked tirelessly as a champion of this program for our District. As you can imagine the details of overseeing this program were endless, from selecting the students that were to go abroad to finding host families for the incoming students. To dealing with problems that would inevitably crop up during their time here. These are details that John undertook enthusiastically and it literally meant hundreds of hours each year.

He made sure that the students we hosted were provided with a positive experience and most importantly, John never wore his service on his sleeve. He never chirped about how much he was doing, and he never complained about the hours. In fact, he seldom talked about it at all. But when he did, he talked about these kids in a fatherly way. The feeling was mutual.

John was one of our best ambassadors for Rotary. For his community. For his Country. As a Rotarian, John’s legacy to us is ” Service Above Self”. So we his fellow Rotarians are proud to honor him with the John Brady Memorial. Thank you John, we will never forget you.

As an organization, we continue to support the Springfield Township community with events, projects, grants and volunteering with a goal of bettering the place where we all live and work.
